How to Clean Moissanite (the 2-Minute Method)

If your moissanite has lost a little of its pop, don't panic — the stone is almost certainly fine. What dulls moissanite isn't damage; it's a thin film of hand lotion, soap, sunscreen, and skin oil that builds up on the underside of the stone, right where light is supposed to bounce. Clean that off and the sparkle comes straight back.

A bowl of warm water, a drop of mild dish soap, and a soft toothbrush. That's the entire kit. No ultrasonic machine, no special jewelry potion, no trip to a jeweler.

Soak the piece in the warm soapy water for a few minutes to loosen the film. Gently brush the stone — front and especially the back, where the buildup hides — with the soft toothbrush. Rinse under clean warm water (plug the drain, or use a strainer, because we've all lost something down a sink). Pat dry with a lint-free cloth. Done.

Sterling silver can oxidize and darken over time — that's normal, not a defect. A soft polishing cloth brings the shine back in seconds. Store your piece dry and away from open air when you're not wearing it (a little pouch or a zip bag works), and it'll stay bright far longer.

Once every week or two for a ring you wear daily; less for occasional pieces. The moment it looks a bit flat is the moment to do it. Two minutes, and it's back.
