Is moissanite a real gemstone, or is it fake?

Moissanite is a real, distinct gemstone — silicon carbide. It occurs in nature but is rare, so the moissanite used in jewelry is lab-grown to gem quality. It is not glass and not an imitation: it is its own stone, scoring 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale (diamond is 10), which makes it one of the hardest materials used in jewelry and excellent for everyday wear.

What's the difference between moissanite and a diamond?

Both are colorless, brilliant, and extremely hard. The visible difference is fire: moissanite has a refractive index of 2.65 versus a diamond's 2.42, so it throws noticeably more colored light, or 'fire'. Moissanite is also a fraction of the price for the same size and clarity. To the eye the two are very difficult to tell apart, which is why moissanite has become the go-to choice for people who want diamond looks without the diamond markup.

What is GRA certification, and how do I verify my stone is real?

GRA (Gra Lab) is an independent laboratory that grades moissanite and issues a certificate listing the stone's carat weight, color, cut, and clarity. Every moissanite piece from Airwaves ships with its GRA certificate, which carries a unique report number you can keep for your records. You can also confirm a stone is moissanite with a standard moissanite/diamond tester: genuine moissanite reads as moissanite (or 'diamond' on basic thermal testers), whereas glass and lower-grade imitations do not.

Will Airwaves moissanite pass a diamond tester?

Yes. Because moissanite conducts heat much like diamond, it passes a standard thermal diamond tester. Dual moissanite/diamond testers, which also read electrical conductivity, will correctly identify it as moissanite. Glass and cheaper imitations do not pass either test — a quick way to confirm you're holding the real thing.

Is the silver real? What metals do you use?

Every piece is set in solid S925 sterling silver (92.5% pure silver), with gold and rose gold plating available on request. Sterling silver is hypoallergenic for most people and built to last with basic care.

How is the jewelry so affordable — every piece is under $200?

Three reasons. First, moissanite is lab-grown, so it skips the mining, the diamond supply chain, and the traditional markup. Second, we source directly from the factory that cuts and sets the stones, with no distributors or retail middlemen in between. Third, we keep the operation lean and sell online only. The savings go to you, which is how every design in the catalog stays under $200.

How much does shipping cost and how long does it take?

US orders over $70 ship free; a flat $8 applies under that, and international shipping is calculated at checkout. Orders are processed within 1–2 business days and typically arrive in 7 to 15 business days depending on your location. You'll receive tracking once your order ships so you can follow it to your door.

What is your return policy?

We offer 30-day returns. If a piece isn't right, contact us within 30 days of delivery for a return or exchange — return shipping is free and refunds are issued to your original payment method once the item is received. Items should come back unworn and in their original condition.

How do I care for sterling silver and moissanite?

Sterling silver can naturally oxidize over time; a soft polishing cloth restores its shine in seconds. Keep your jewelry dry and store it away from air when not worn to slow tarnishing, and take it off before swimming, showering, or applying lotions and perfumes. Moissanite itself is nearly scratch-proof — wipe it with warm water and a little mild soap to bring back its sparkle.

Can I order gold or rose gold instead of silver?

Yes. Gold and rose gold plating are available on most moissanite pieces. Message us on WhatsApp before or right after ordering and we'll arrange the finish you want.

Is checkout secure, and how can I reach you?
